Prince Edward Island

Home of the famous Charlottetown Conference of 1864, for which it is known as “the birthplace of Canada.” Prince Edward Island (PEI) is Canada’s smallest province that is formed by the island itself and several surrounding isles. Although it’s the smallest province it is rich in natural beauty, history, and Canadian culture. It also has a growing economy based on tourism, agriculture, and fishing.

 

Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP)

The Provincial Nominee Program of Prince Edward Island is known as PEI PNP. Prospective immigrants fulfilling the experience and skills determined by the province may get a Prince Edward Island Provincial Nomination certificate through this program. Compared to the other Canadian immigration classes, foreign national with this certificate will be able to apply for Canadian permanent residence with faster processing times.

Prospective candidates can apply for PEI PNP under three major immigration categories:

• Business Impact Category

• PEI PNP Express Entry

• Labour Impact Category

Business Impact Category

This PEI PNP category is for those with the plan of investing in and actively managing a business in Prince Edward Island. Individuals with this ability can apply to the following three streams:

100% Ownership Stream: This immigration stream is for foreign national who will assume a full ownership of a local business in PEI. The business could be new or an existing PEI business entirely purchased by the foreign national. The individual must have a minimum asset with a book value of CAD $150,000 and must pay all income tax on taxable income.

Partial Ownership Stream:  This PEI immigration stream is for those who will purchase part of a local business, instead of owning the entire business. The individuals must obtain at least one-third of a PEI business or should make a minimum equity investment in the business of at least CAD $1,000,000.

Work Permit Stream: Individuals interested in experiencing the day-to-day operation of a PEI business it before investing money on it can apply through this sub-category. This stream will grant individuals a work permit so that he or she can move to PEI and work on that business they are planning to invest on. 

PEI PNP Express Entry

Qualified foreign nationals who want to live and work in Prince Edward Island can apply to the PEI PNP Express Entry stream if they are eligible to enter the Express Entry pool. The processing times could be six months or less for the candidates with skills and experience matching current identified labour needs for the province.

Labour Impact Category

Foreign nationals who don’t own a business but wish to live and work permanently in PEI can apply in this category. They must possess certain education, skills, and experience that are a need in PEI’s local labour market. This immigration category is divided into the following three sub-categories:

Skilled Worker Stream: This immigration stream is for those individuals who have been hired or identified by a PEI employer. Eligible candidates must have at least a post-secondary degree or diploma, including knowledge and experience in a skilled profession.

Critical Worker Stream: Individuals currently working for a PEI business, whose employer will sponsor them for permanent residency can apply in this subcategory. If eligible, they can work in a semi-skilled or unskilled profession. 

International graduate Stream: This is an employer-driven stream where individuals recently graduated from a recognized PEI University or college and already been hired by a PEI Employer can apply in this category. Those who are eligible can work in a skilled profession that matches their field of study.
